Welcome to the Walcott, Blue Grass and Buffalo 5th Grade Band Page!
We are
very excited that you chose to be in band!
You will meet many new friends, become great musicians and of course have lots of fun.
Welcome to our Band Family!
Parents you should have the following things:
1. Band handbook - (handed
out in Sept. - I should also have the parent/student signature page from the handbook back by the end of Sept.)
2. Concert schedule - in the handbook
or you can download it from the Walcott 5-8th grade band web page. ALL THE PERFORMANCES ARE REQUIRED.
3. Internet Picture Permission Form - If
one did not get home... there is a link to download it on the homepage of this Walcott music department site.
4. An instrument in "proper working order" for your child - an old, broken or even a "cheaper" instrument is one of the main reasons children do not continue playing.
PLEASE, PLEASE take the instrument into a professional or bring it to me if your student is having trouble playing.
The instrument should also be cleaned each time it is used with a cleaning kit that you can purchase at the music
store. Correctly using valve oil (trumpet, baritone, trombone, etc.), cork grease (clarinet/saxophone) before
each practice, using good or "unbroken" reeds and cleaning the instrument after each practice can save many dollars in repairs.
5. Concert dress for your student's May concert - White, button down shirt, black pants, shoes and socks (same as 6th Grade Band). NO JEANS or tennis shoes.
For the January concert - nice dress clothes. NO JEANS or tennis shoes.

Please include your student in the summer band program (the summer before they start the 5th grade)!
